I'm a 3D environment artist and art director with a specialty in real time technology. As an art director and supervisor, I find myself at my best when I am leading a team to create amazingly beautiful visuals across the film and game industries. As an Unreal Authorized Instructor who has taught thousands of students, I have a passion for helping others grow and succeed. I'm comfortable both in front of the camera and behind the camera and if I had to describe myself in one word, it would be: storyteller.
VAD Lead on environment art for Virtual Production. We build environments for virtual sets using Unreal Engine. My job revolves around leading the team on translating concepts into 3d virtual sets that define the background environments on film. I spend a lot of time in Unreal Engine, but often get my hands dirty in Maya, Zbrush, and Painter. Some of my day to day:
- Task management for the team
- Translating comments from key creatives and showrunners into actionable items
- Testing out new technologies and techniques
- Initial lookdev to define foundations
- Mentoring and training team members
- Finding solutions and breaking through limitations
I am responsible for managing curricula for the Game Arts and Development instructional coursework. Here I coordinate the development of the curricula, test new technologies and determine where they fit into the ever growing game development industry, instruct and manage the instructors, and teach some classes myself. I focus primarily on game art, Unreal Engine 4, 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, programming, and the general game development flow.
I work as part of the VR team at JB Hunt. We build virtual reality experiences for practical, educational, and marketing purposes. I play the role of local Unreal Engine 4 expert. I develop core systems for game mechanics in both C++ and Blueprint in addition to managing source control and build pipelines. I am also the primary 3D artist on the team with a focus on environment art. Together with my team we build and optimize virtual reality experiences to serve the transportation industry.
I teach classes in game development using Unreal Engine 4 to the younger generation of students (ages 10-15). In my classes, students start by learning the basics of working within the Unreal Engine. Once we have that nailed down, we move to cover subjects such as level design, complex material building, and Blueprint. We also cover subjects such as teamwork and the different roles within a game development team.
I built 3D environment art on top of level blockouts to bring the game world to life. I developed specialized shaders in Unreal Engine 3 and provided art direction.
